About the Author

I have had a keen passion for photography for several decades. Starting with film cameras I learnt the fundamentals of photography and how to effectively use a Single Lens Reflex camera. Progressing on to black and white photography I learnt how this medium could be used to powerfully display drama, mood and texture with only black, white and grey hues. I then learnt how to develop, process and print black and white photographs in the darkroom. That was a very creative experience that I enjoyed and inspired me to go on and teach the magic of these techniques to fellow students at university. Transitioning into digital photography I wanted to discover the differences between old skool film photography and the upstart medium of digital. It appears that the fundamentals of photography remain largely the same but there are some differences, improvements, possibilities etc. Through the medium of this website, we will explore these well-trodden paths of the fundamental basics and also investigate the new techniques, technology and possibilities of digital photography through easy-to-follow illustrated guides.
